MEETING SUMMARIES
Fairfax Board of School Directors – Meeting Summary
Monday, May 11, 2026
Staffing Updates:
The board acknowledged the resignation of Tyler Lucey, MS/HS Music. We thank him for his contributions to BFA and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
The board also acknowledged the following new hires: Jordan Gepigon, Grades 5–6 Math; Nicole Grande, Grade 1 Long-Term Substitute; Margaret Standley, MS/HS French; Ryan Hayes, Director of Athletics and Activities; and Jensen Welch, High School Principal. The board is excited to welcome these individuals to the BFA community and looks forward to the experience, energy, and leadership they will bring to our school.
Act 73 Update:
Superintendent Tague provided an update on developments related to Act 73 and H.955, the education reform bill currently being debated in the Vermont Legislature. The bill continues to move through the Senate and focuses on addressing rising education costs while expanding student opportunities through increased regional collaboration and shared services.
The current proposal would create Cooperative Educational Service Areas (CESAs) to help coordinate areas such as special education, transportation, and professional development. At this time, the bill does not require immediate school district mergers, though it would encourage regional studies and long-term planning around governance and efficiency. Significant discussion and debate surrounding the bill continue, and no final decisions have been reached.
School AOE Designation Change:
The board approved Superintendent Tague’s request to ask the Agency of Education to redesignate BFA as separate PK–4, 5–8, and 9–12 schools. This change in state designation will help streamline budgeting, attendance procedures, and state reporting requirements.
End-of-School Staff Celebration:
The board approved up to $4,500 for the annual end-of-school staff celebration during in-service days. The board is deeply appreciative of the hard work and dedication of BFA staff and wants to ensure their efforts are recognized and celebrated.
Policy Review – Second Reading:
The board adopted the following policy:
C22: Student Athletics, Clubs, and Activities
Next Meeting:
The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on June 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Fairfax Library. The board welcomed new board representative Parker Haddock and looks forward to his service and contributions to the BFA community.
