BFA Board of Directors – Meeting Summary

On Tuesday, October 14, the Fairfax Board of Directors held a carousel meeting at Fletcher Elementary School. The meeting began with the FWSU Board session, comprised of three representatives from each local board, followed by individual meetings for each school board.

Trip Approvals:
The board approved three upcoming out-of-state trips:

• A High School Music Department trip to Massachusetts

• The Baseball Spring Training trip

• The Middle School Boston trip

Middle School Social Contract Presentation:
Principal Baron shared an update on the important work happening in the middle school around developing a social contract. This contract, created and agreed upon by students, outlines shared community beliefs and expectations. The students signed it, and it will hang where they can see it. 

Literacy Bill Update:
Scott Thompson provided an overview of current literacy legislation, explaining its implications for the school and how related changes have been or will be implemented.

Budget Process:
The Board began discussions for the upcoming budget season, emphasizing a level services budget approach. Health care costs and professional salaries will again be the primary drivers of increases. The board encourages community members to attend upcoming meetings to share input and participate in the budget process.

Budget Communication:
The board approved the budget communication postcard, which will be mailed to voters to promote transparency and community engagement around the budget process.

Board Member Departure:
The board extends its sincere appreciation to Jolie Frechette for her dedication and service. As she relocates to another town, we wish her all the best in her next chapter. The process to appoint a new board member will begin at the November meeting.
