Fairfax Board of School Directors – Meeting Summary

The Fairfax Board of School Directors held a joint meeting with the Selectboard, followed by its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Joint Meeting with Selectboard
The boards discussed opportunities for collaboration and identified areas where joint efforts could provide mutual benefits. Both shared updates on steps being taken to address fiscal pressures, including increasing inter-board communication, holding biannual joint meetings—especially aligned with the budget cycle—and coordinating on shared priorities. These efforts aim to strengthen communication and help reduce costs for taxpayers.

Staffing Updates
The Board acknowledged the following staffing changes:

• Resignations: Joshua Rooney (Grade 7–8 Social Studies), Mary Taussig (Middle School Counselor), and Mary Tardif (Middle/High School Music). The Board thanks them for their dedication and contributions to the school community and wishes them well in their future endeavors.

• New Hires: Hannah Frye (Grade 7–8 Social Studies), Lori Stith (Middle School Counselor), and Joanna Alpizar (Middle School Music). The Board welcomes them to the BFA Fairfax community.

Construction Update
Significant progress has been made on the school building over the summer, and it’s looking fantastic. Most work will be complete by the start of the school year, with only a few minor projects continuing into late October. Later this fall, there will be opportunities for the public to visit and see the updates firsthand. Stay tuned for more details.

The Board adopted the following policies:

• DL2: Cell Phones & Personal Electronic Devices (additional details will be shared via email from the Board and Superintendent)

• C2: Student Alcohol & Drugs

• C15: Student Conduct and Discipline

• F23: Capitalization of Assets

Policy Review – First Reading
The Board conducted the first reading of the following policies:

• C7: Student Attendance

• D24: Special Education

• F5: Behavioral Threat Assessment Teams
