THANKS to everyone who attended the PTA Scholastic Book Fair in April!!!  We sold over $6700 worth of books this year, an increase from past Book Fairs…  This means close to $2000 for PTA funds!

$80 was donated to the “One for Books” Program which meant Sixteen GEMS students received a $5 gift certificate for books at our Fair! In addition, Scholastic will match this amount and donate a book for every $1 raised, meaning 80 kids will be receiving books around the USA! WOW! Thanks to all who generously donated loose change or bills to this worthwhile program!

THANK YOU to the following individuals who took time out of their busy schedules to volunteer for the PTA SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR. Thanks go to Alison Mackenzie, Billie Reyome, Candace Solomon, Cassie Fraser, Christine Orellana, Deb Fraser, Ed Ballantyne, Elke Rainville, Ellen Hsieh, Jan Schultz, Janet Hill, Joni Bates, Judy Carpenter, Karen Eppley, Kathy Wieland, Kim Asch, Leslie Bergeron, Linda Kronoff, Linda Stech, Lisa Lefebvre, Marlene Wry, Patty Laroe, Pat Chamberlain, Shawna Shuttle, Sheri Ford, Susan Knight, Tammy Rudden, and Troy Davis.  Thanks also to Aleta and Kathy in the office for all their help! Heather Dunsmore, as the PTA Treasurer, spent countless hours on the financial papers for the Book Fair. THANKS, Heather! Finally, thanks to all the people who had to move all their daily stuff from the room we used for the Book Fair, without a single complaint!   THANKS, Gail Wolff   (PTA Scholastic Book Fair Chair)

There will be a Girl Scout pre-registration at the Georgia Public Library for the upcoming school year on Tuesday, May 13th. The Jimmy Messier Memorial Youth Center, sponsored by the Georgia Plain Baptist Church, will be built on the old one room schoolhouse property, also known as the grange hall, in Georgia Plain. Jimmy Messier was a ten year old boy who attended Georgia Plain Baptist Church who recently passed away due to complications from heart surgery. He enjoyed life to its fullest and was looking forward to becoming a “youth”. This youth center is being constructed to make a positive spiritual difference in the lives of Georgia youth, leading them to become competent, caring individuals and giving them a safe environment to enjoy their free time. To date a total of $67,000 has been raised in cash, pledges and in-kind donations. The goal is to raise $150,000. The next fundraiser is a walkathon on May 17th. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation please call the committee chairperson, Colin Conger (524-6311), Pastor Kuthe (524-5348) or Alexis Bell (524-4232).
